2007 MDX Break Upgrade/Replacement

While getting my tires replaced, my mechanic said that I should probably replace my brake pads soon.
When I replace any car parts, I look for an upgraded version of that part. In this case, I hit the boards and every auto parts site. After some homework, I found EBC's and PowerStop brake replacements. EBC's look way better, but with slotted disc's they were outside of my budget. The PowerStop Z23 fit the bill -and I spent $220 for all four tires, thats pads and slotted rotors. AutoAnything had 15% off and a manufacturers rebate of $60, plus free shipping. At that point, I couldn't say NO!

I've had them on for 11K miles and I love them. If you are considering an upgrade or a replacement, this brake kit provides great performance for the price. More bang for the bucket.
My mechanic installed them for me for $120 - in under 2 hours.

MDX Brake Light Switch - Car Won't Shift Out of Park

As a follow up to my first post, and as a response to a question I received. If you've checked your Horn/Stop Fuse #11 and your vehicle does not allow you to shift, then look at your Brake Light Switch.

First, where is this thing and what does it do?
When you attempt to shift your vehicle into park this little piece of plastic plays an important role. By pressing down on your break this little plastic switch opens and sends a signal for your break lights to come on. If you don't have break lights or your shifter is stuck in Park, trying replacing this part. Its straight forward and anyone will decent skills should be able to do this.
*** Really important *** save yourself time -- test the replacement part by removing the white connector and plugging it into the brake switch. If it works after you plug it in - replace the part. If it doesn't, something else is causing your issue. So save yourself the $20, and return the switch.

The white connector comes off by holding the lock on the front of it. Then you will be left with green and black piece.  Hold down the brake, use your arm. You'll see the white tab appear - now take two fingers to hold down that tabs to release the small lock (oval green piece below). Now remove the larger piece from the top. Now replace the unit.

Check Engine/SH-AWD/VSA and ABS light on (MDX)

By JMc -

I went to start my MDX, I turned the key and pressed the brake to shift out of park. The car threw the following alerts "Check Engine/SH-AWD/VSA and ABS Light On". When I attempted to shift out of park the shifter would not move.
If this sounds familiar or close read further and I will spare you the challenges I faced and get to fix.

Next step: Check to see if your brake lights are working, now test the horn. If either isn't working do the following.
Fix: Open the hood and open the Fuse box to the left of the Battery.

Next Steps: Check fuse #11 "Horn/Stop".  If its broken, replace it.
Tip: Use needle nose pilers instead of the fuse removal tool - tweezers even work better.
